Google has just announced tons of new search features all across Google Search, Google Lens, Shopping, and Maps. The goal of the change is to make sure that users can find whatever they’re looking for with ease. These improvements have come to multisearch, Google Lens, Google Shopping, and Maps.
Here’s a breakdown of all the new features Google has announced.
Search for Food with Multi-Search
Google Lens is incredibly helpful, and it is about to become even better. If you see a dish that you absolutely love, you can use Google Lens to find the dish. Click a photo, and type “Near me” in Google multisearch and it will show you all the restaurants near you that contain the dish.
This new way of searching is really helpful for local businesses listed on Google. Consumers can go straight to the businesses that have the food they want.
This feature is launching today in English in the U.S. for mobile search results.
Search for Specific Dishes
Not just dishes near you, you can also type in your search to find specific dishes you want to eat. Google will come up with suggestions for nearby restaurants that have this dish in their menu. That’s not all, you will be able to get additional details as well, such as pricing, ingredients, and additional menu information.
This feature is also launching today in English in the U.S. on mobile devices and in the Google app on Android and iOS.
Updates to Google Translate
Google Lens is probably one of the most underrated solutions out there. Google has made some changes to Google Lens and has updated the translation capabilities. Google Lens allows users to get a live translation of any written text.
After this update, Google Lens will be able to translate text on more complex backgrounds. Instead of covering up the original text, Google’s new AI will erase the original text and then recreate pixels underneath. Then Google will show the translated text over the original text.
Google is using something known as Generative adversarial networks (GAN) to present the translated text to users. Most users aren’t aware of it, but Google uses the same tech on Google Pixel devices for their “Magix Eraser” tool.
This tool will be available later this year. Google has hinted that it will become available before the end of 2022.
Google Shopping with AR Shoes
Google has been making huge strides in the AR industry. And now they’ve released shopping features to help you see shoes in augmented reality. You can shop for shoes by covering your own shoes with new shoes using AR.
With this new tech, users will be able to spin, zoom in, and see shoes in their own space. This makes shoe shopping much easier as you’ll know if they look good on you or not.
This feature is currently available with limited brands such as Saucony, VANS, and Merrell. Here’s what Google has to say about “Shopping with AR.”
New Shopping Models for Beauty Shopping
Not just shoes, Google has also aided those who shop for beauty products online. Google has added a new AR search feature. It allows you to try out products on models with various features, skin tones, and more.
Google has already added a new photo library containing around 150 models. These photos are there to represent a spectrum of skin tones, ages, genders, face shapes, skin types, and ethnicities. According to Google, you can accurately test up to 2,000 foundations shared from a wide range of brands.
This feature is also going live today.
Live View Search on Google Maps
Google Maps has also received a new update, and we love it. Now you can search and explore neighborhoods with AR using the Google map app. With Google Map AR, you can now open the app, click on the camera icon and see through the screen everything that’s available near you in real-time.
Google has hinted towards these updates multiple times, but now it’s finally here. This new feature will be available in London, Los Angeles, New York, Paris, San Francisco, and Tokyo.
EV Charging Filters and Wheelchair Accessibility Filters in Google Maps
Now you can add filters to Google Maps to only see the areas that have fast charging stations for EVs, or stations that have plugs available for your EV. Moreover, you can also filter for places that have wheelchair accessibility, which is a really cool feature we think.
The EV charger filter can even show CSS and CHAdeMo chargers that offer 350kW or even 50Kw. This feature will be available globally on both Android and iOS devices.
How These Updates Will Impact Users?
More than consumers, these features will help local businesses who want to get more eyes on themselves. Businesses can add as much information as possible on their Google My Business Listings, and come up on the results when users search for information. For restaurants and food businesses, they can upload their updated menus on their Google My Business listing to take advantage of the new search features.
From the consumer’s perspective, searching for your favorite dishes will become easier. Shopping would be less confusing as you can take the help of AR. Google is planning to release a range of AR-related updates in its offerings, let’s wait and see what’s next.
